Great Crested Grebe - Podiceps cristatu

Great Crested Grebes | Territorial fight
Canon 600mm f6.3 for 1/3200th @ iso400

A struggle to retain territory, life and achieve dominance. Great Crested Grebes going from creating elegant shapes in their courtship displays to utter chaos.

Coot fights are often explosive and frenetic but fights between Great Crested Grebe pairs generally seem to last longer and are equally if not more vicious, a lot of the action can take place underwater, with the water churning as no doubt a struggle takes place.
