One thing I do like about the Canon 600mm and F4 is the ability to diffuse the surrounding environment, and ok not a frame filling bird on a stick image, the owl sat on the fence line, which is diffused with F4 and a couple of thistles discernible in the image and the DoF taking care of the rest.
