The stag is stood on the banks of the stream bordering the woodland, a natural border with steep banks. The stag is calling into the woods and the hinds who are with another stag are being urged to leave the woods and join him. Both stags have stood either side of the stream roaring at each other but neither ventured into the stream and up the banks to face off with each other.
