Great Crested Grebe - Podiceps cristatu

The Grebe chicks are now off their parents backs and out swimming - they are still being fed by their parents, and it is literally a procession line of fish of all sizes being presented to them. They either follow their parents about uttering their high pitch call indicating "feed me", when not following their parents the two siblings simply bob about - that does create danger for themselves as the Lesser Black-backed gulls are on the continual hunt for the chicks. Just in the last week these gulls have taken both Coot and Moorhen chicks, and made numerous attempts to snatch the Grebe chicks.
